Pop-up Disc Golf!

On the Oklahoma Ave. lawn at RFK Campus

Novices, beginners and pros are welcome at the District’s free, first and only disc golf course. The course is open 8 am to dusk, seven days a week. You can borrow discs (please leave a photo ID), scorecards and pencils at The Fields office in Lot 7, open 4 - 10 pm weekdays and 8 am - 8 pm on weekends.

The six-hole pop-up course is a project of the nonprofit CRYSP DC, which operates The Fields and advocates for sports and recreation spaces in the District, in collaboration with Events DC, owner of The Fields, with funding from the Capitol Hill Community Foundation and in-kind and financial support from Events DC.

What is Disc Golf?

Disc golf is much like golf, with players trying to reach the hole (“basket”) in the fewest strokes possible. The stroke, in this case, is a throw with a modified frisbee. See “How to Play” below for more info.

Now keep score on UDisc!

HOW TO PLAY

  • The first throw (stroke) for each round starts at the tee box. Each player throws their disc, aiming for the basket (hole).

  • Mark where your disc lands or leave it there—do not go past this spot on your next throw.

  • After every player has thrown once, the player farthest from the basket throws first, followed by the next closest and so on.

  • Once you have landed your disc in the chains of the basket or the basket itself, the hole is completed.

Course Rules

  • Tee off is only permitted from designated tee boxes. Players may not throw from the greens or out-of-bounds areas such as trees, sidewalks, or the parking lot.

  • Groups may not exceed six (6) people.

  • Tomahawk or Thumber throws are prohibited.

  • As best as possible, repair or replace divots made by discs in the grass.

  • Wear shirts and shoes at all times.

  • Climbing trees is prohibited.

  • Enjoy the course as a smoke-free, alcohol-free, drug-free site.

Reminders

  • Enter and play at your own risk.

  • Please refrain from throwing until the group of golfers ahead of you clears the green.

  • Be courteous of those playing around you – keep voices and noise at a low level.

  • Players are responsible for any damage they cause.

  • Unsafe, reckless, or destructive players may be removed from the premises.

  • Most importantly, HAVE FUN!

THE BASIC RULES OF DISC GOLF

Objective

Disc Golf is played like regular golf but with flying discs. One point (stroke) is counted every time the disc is thrown and when a penalty is incurred. The objective is to finish each hole in the fewest strokes possible.

The player with the fewest strokes for the entire course wins.

Lie

The Lie is the spot where the player’s previous throw has come to rest. Mark the lie with a marker and throw the next shot from behind the marker.

Throwing Order

The player with the fewest strokes on the previous hole will tee off first. After everyone tees off, the player furthest away from the hole throws first.

Out of Bounds (O.B.)

There are no out of bounds (O.B.) lines on the course. The only O.B. areas are the walkways, sidewalks and parking lot. If the disc is considered O.B., the player must throw their next shot 3 feet from the O.B. line with a one-stroke penalty added to their score.

Completion of Hole

A hole is completed when the disc comes to rest in the basket or chains.

Courtesy

Never throw a disc when there are other players ahead of you on the hole.

Always give people walking on the walkway the right of way before throwing a disc. Always be cautious of your surroundings.
