Survey Says...Frisbee, and More

At the two-year anniversary of the opening of The Fields at RFK, CRYSP is not just celebrating what it has achieved with Events DC and our partners and communities in wards 6, 7 and 8 communities; we are looking ahead to further expand recreational spaces and opportunities in DC.

Last December, CRYSP surveyed residents to identify recreational gaps in DC—not just at The Fields—with a focus on adults over 55 and youth ages 10-14 without adult supervision. Partnering with Advisory Neighborhood Commissions and civic organizations, over 200 people responded.

Residents identified their top choices among a list of options. For youth activities, over half chose a spray ground/water feature and/or a parkour/ropes course/zipline as their top choices. Disc (frisbee) golf was the top choice for adult recreational activities. Almost a third of survey-takers chose pickleball as a second-choice recreational activity for adults.

In response, CRYSP and Events DC will install a pop-up, six-hole disc golf course on the Oklahoma Ave. Lawn at The Fields at RFK. Play will be free and patrons can get scorecards and borrow discs at The Fields office. Stay tuned for updates and a launch date. (Update! The Oklahoma Ave Disc Golf Course is up and running!)

Our mission is making space to play, so we will continue to turn to this survey and other community input as we consider next projects to pursue. Have ideas or see a need for recreational or sports space in DC? We’d love to hear from you! Contact us.
